Nintendo Switch controller stick drift repair
Nintendo Switch controller stick drift repair in Belgrade: module desoldering and disassembly, contact cleaning, reassembly and complete testing.
Nintendo Switch controller after cleaning the analogue stick contacts.
When a character, camera or cursor moves even though you are not touching the stick, the fault is commonly known as joystick drift. This Nintendo Switch controller came to our workshop with exactly that symptom.
In this case, neither the complete controller nor the analogue module had to be replaced. Diagnosis showed that contaminated contacts inside the joystick mechanism were causing the incorrect input.
What causes analogue stick drift?
The controller reads stick position through potentiometers with very small contact surfaces. Dust, oxidation and deposits from long-term use can distort the electrical signal. The controller then registers movement even while the stick is physically centred.
Drift does not always mean that the whole analogue module must be replaced. If the contact tracks are not mechanically worn out, proper cleaning can restore normal operation.
How did we repair this Nintendo Switch controller?
We carefully opened the controller, protected the circuit board and fully desoldered the joystick module. Removing it was necessary to open the mechanism correctly and reach the contact components.

We thoroughly cleaned the contacts, inspected the wiper elements, reassembled the module and soldered it back onto the board. The repaired controller was then tested for centre position, dead zone and full travel in every direction.
The result: the stick now returns accurately to centre, unintended movement is gone and the controller works normally again.
Why does spraying cleaner from the outside often fail?
Spraying a product around the stick cap does not reliably reach the contact surfaces inside the module. The liquid may leave residue, spread to other components or damage plastic parts. Proper cleaning requires opening the mechanism, and on this controller that means desoldering it from the circuit board.
A multi-pin joystick module also requires controlled heating and the right equipment. Incorrect desoldering can lift pads or damage the board.
Need a controller stick drift repair?
MyService in Belgrade repairs Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and other gaming controllers. We first determine whether the existing analogue module can be cleaned and preserved, and recommend replacement only when it is genuinely worn or damaged.
If your character or camera moves by itself, the stick jumps or fails to reach its full range, bring the controller in for diagnosis.
