AirPods Max Won't Turn On โ€“ Power Controller Replacement

AirPods Max showed no signs of life. Diagnostics found a faulty power controller, which we replaced to restore the headphones to normal operation.

AirPods Max during diagnostics and board-level power circuit repair

These AirPods Max came to our service center with a serious fault โ€” the headphones would not turn on and showed no signs of life at all.

With this type of problem, the battery is often the first suspect. However, the actual cause can be much deeper. The fault may be related to the power circuits, internal connections, the main board, or individual components responsible for power distribution inside the device.

For this reason, we started with a complete diagnostic check.

AirPods Max Showing No Signs of Life

The headphones did not respond to controls and could not start normally.

After disassembly, we checked the internal connections, the condition of the electronic board, and the main power lines.

Measurements showed that the problem was related to the power management circuit.

AirPods Max Power Circuit Diagnostics

When AirPods Max do not turn on, replacing the battery immediately is not always the right approach.

During diagnostics, we checked:

  • the battery and power supply;
  • internal connections;
  • connectors and flex cables;
  • main voltage lines on the board;
  • power circuit components;
  • the power management controller.

The measurements confirmed that the power controller on the electronic board was faulty.

Faulty Power Controller

The power controller plays an important role in the operation of AirPods Max. It helps manage and distribute the voltages required by different parts of the device.

When this component fails, the headphones may:

  • not turn on at all;
  • stop responding to buttons;
  • show no normal LED indication;
  • fail to connect to other devices;
  • react incorrectly to charging;
  • appear completely dead.

In this case, the AirPods Max showed exactly these symptoms โ€” there was no normal startup or response from the device.

Replacing the AirPods Max Power Controller

After confirming the fault, the damaged power controller was removed from the electronic board and replaced with a working component.

This type of repair requires board-level component repair and precision soldering. Instead of replacing the entire electronic board or a complete module, only the faulty component is replaced.

After the repair, we checked the power lines again to make sure the required voltages had been restored.

AirPods Max Turned On Again

After replacing the power controller, the headphones were reassembled for testing.

The result was successful โ€” the AirPods Max turned on again and started working normally.

After the repair, we also checked:

  • power on and shutdown;
  • charging;
  • connection to another device;
  • stability during operation;
  • the main headphone functions.

The fault was successfully resolved.

Why You Shouldn't Replace the Battery Immediately

If AirPods Max do not turn on, it does not automatically mean that the battery is defective.

Possible causes include:

  • a faulty battery;
  • damaged connectors;
  • problems with internal connections;
  • faults in the power circuits;
  • a defective power controller;
  • corrosion caused by moisture;
  • damage to the electronic board;
  • failure of other board-level components.

That is why proper diagnostics should always come before replacing parts.

Board-Level Repair Instead of Replacing the Entire Board

In many cases, electronic faults can be repaired without replacing the complete board.

If the defective component can be accurately located through measurements, it can often be replaced individually.

That is exactly what happened with these AirPods Max โ€” instead of replacing the entire electronic board, we replaced only the faulty power controller and restored the headphones to working condition.

AirPods Max Repair in Belgrade

At My Service in Belgrade, we provide diagnostics and board-level repair for Bluetooth headphones, including AirPods Max.

If your AirPods Max:

  • won't turn on;
  • won't charge;
  • won't connect;
  • discharge unusually quickly;
  • turn off unexpectedly;
  • or show no signs of life,

the first step is to diagnose the device and determine the actual cause of the problem.

In this case, the AirPods Max were successfully restored by replacing the faulty power controller.
